Jobs180 Turns Lives Around thru Career Talks

With the aim of equipping Second Year students with the understanding on how to plan better for future careers, as well as the essentials on creating improved resumes, the Guidance Center cooperated with Jobs180.com and conducted a Career Orientation Seminar on October 24 at the Sampaguita Hall with the theme: “Rekindle the Passion of Paulinian Educators as Shepherds: Empowering the Minds of Young Professionals and Shepherding the Paulinian Flock in the World of Work”.

Ms. Ana Charita C, Alvar, RGC, RPm, the Guidance Counselor for College Department gave the welcome remarks and explained that this year’s theme encourages students to “make a difference in the world of work as a Paulinian”.

Mr. Allan G. Andrada, the Marketing Manager of Jobs180.com is this year’s resource speaker. He took up Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Major in Marketing at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines. He also took his Master’s Degree in Business Administration with Specialization in Marketing Management from the same university. Mr. Andrada has been giving numerous talks at numerous universities tackling marketing and youth leadership among others.

Entitled as “Marketing Me”, Mr. Andrada shared in his seminar the how tos of career planning and decision making. “Career planning is an on-going process.” he said. Mr. Andrada shared four key steps in achieving “the road to success”:

  • Know one’s self – a person knows himself/herself better than anyone else thus this will help the student determine what he/she wants and what he/she does not want;
  • Look for possibilities – students must explore occupations that interest him/her and then match it up with the skills that they have. Mr. Andrada emphasized that students must not look for jobs but rather look for career because jobs are just merely tasks whereas careers give self-fulfillment upon finishing certain tasks;
  • Make decision – students must decide on the best work they could apply for or the best training they could go to. Mr. Andrada said, “There’s no guarantee that your decisions are right or wrong.” because that will entirely depend on how your job or training will go through;
  • Lastly, take actions! – students should believe in their selves and put their plans into actions. “Yes I can and yes I will!” has been Mr. Andrada’s mantra in his 6 years as a marketing practitioner.

On the last part of his seminar, Mr. Andrada showed the students how to create resumes that will stand-out; by simply using Jobs180’s Resume Link feature. Resume Link is a personalized url for resumes that can be viewed online. Students were astounded as to how Resume Link can generate professional-looking resumes that aren’t too traditional and boring.

As the seminar ended, Mr. Andrada challenged the students to continue the legacy of the university’s graduates as being one of the most requested resume links among employers.
